Contemporary pot entitled “weathered bronze”, by Leo Dashwood (born 1985) using the raku technique, made in 2024.

A characterful studio piece defined by its softly metallic surface, this raku-fired vessel carries the depth and unpredictability of the firing process. Subtle bronze tones shift across the form, evoking aged metal while retaining the warmth and tactility of clay. An expressive object that sits easily between sculpture and function.

Height: 15cm. Incised “Dashwood 24” to base.

In the artist’s own words: “Raku is generally considered as being one of the most demanding practices within the field of ceramics. The Raku technique is essentially when glazed ceramics are taken from the kiln while they are still glowing red hot and are then placed in a material that is combustible , such as sawdust. This technique is used to starve the piece of oxygen, which creates a myriad of colours within the glaze.”
