A very attractive and early example of Doulton Lambeth art pottery, featuring rich salt-glazed decoration in deep blue and brown tones. The jug has a bulbous body with finely incised and applied leaf and geometric designs, along with a tall flared neck and applied handle.
The base is impressed “Doulton Lambeth 1874” and shows artist’s incised initials consistent with Frank Butler, along with workshop marks.
Minor chips are noted to the rim and base, common for ceramics of this age and type, which do not detract from the piece - rather, they add to its character.
