Chinese Happiness Jars, Blue & White Porcelain (Pair)

A pair of large, lidded, 19th-century Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jars, each hand painted and decorated with the Chinese symbol for happiness.

The happiness character is the traditional Chinese symbol associated with marriage, harmony, prosperity and good fortune, and was widely used on domestic decorative wares and wedding-related objects.

Date: late Qing dynasty, probably Guangxu period (1875–1908)
