Still Life with Grapes and Clarinet, after George Braque
A large, competent 20th-century study after Georges Braque's Still Life with Grapes and Clarinet of 1927.
The composition closely follows Braque's original, with fruit, glassware, papers and musical elements arranged as a series of overlapping, flattened forms. Painted in a restrained palette of ochre, olive, cream and brown, with strong dark outlines throughout.
The original painting is held by The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC.
A founding figure of Cubism alongside Pablo Picasso, Braque was among the most influential artists of the twentieth century. His later interiors combined still life, architecture and symbolic forms into richly layered compositions that continue to shape modern art and design.
Presented in a substantial gilt frame.
