This mid-century, sculptural, modernist vase in black and beige, with a contrasting vivid blue interior glaze was designed by Colin Melbourne for Beswick Pottery.

Marked to base “1395” and “Beswick England”, stamped “Beswick England” and with designer’s signature. Approximate dimensions: height 28cm.

Colin Melbourne (1928-2009) was a renowned British ceramicist known for his modernist approach, producing a range for Beswick in the 1950s that included modernist vessels (such as this one) and animal figures.
