A vintage French salt-glazed stoneware jug from the Grès de Bonny workshops, handmade in Bonny-sur-Loire - a small town in central France with a long tradition of artisan pottery. The piece is defined by its compact form and utilitarian clarity, with a gently tapering body rising into a pulled spout, and a looped handle set cleanly at the shoulder.
The salt glaze has produced a lightly textured, orange-peel surface, with tonal variation ranging from warm greys to muted browns. Areas of heavier deposition create subtle gloss against a predominantly matte ground, emphasising the firing process rather than applied decoration.
Originally functional, the jug works equally well as an object - with its scale and directness giving it presence on a shelf or table, either as a standalone piece or grouped with other studio ceramics.
