A mid-century Poole Pottery “Atlantis” vase designed by Guy Sydenham and Beatrice Bolton.
A characterful example of Poole Pottery’s Atlantis range, this studio vase embodies the experimental spirit of late 1960s British ceramics. Developed under the direction of Guy Sydenham, the range sought to move beyond traditional decoration, embracing texture, form, and individual expression.
Hand-thrown and worked by artist-makers within the Poole Studio, each piece carries its own distinct surface incised, carved, and layered with earthy glazes that echo natural materials and landscape. The result is both tactile and quietly sculptural, with subtle variations that reflect the hand of the maker.
Of ovoid form with cylindrical neck, impressed circular decoration, glazed tan and turquoise on a white background, impressed factory marks and artists monograms. 22.5cm high.
