Wedgwood: Bizarre Cups by Clarice Cliff, Pastel Melon Pattern (c.2001)
Three cups from the Bizarre by Clarice Cliff range featuring the pastel melon pattern, part of Wedgwood’s limited run Clarice Cliff Collection from circa 2001 which reproduced the famous Art Deco period designs.
The form is classic Clarice Cliff, a conical cup body with solid triangular handle, and created with beautiful crisp vibrant colours, just as the originals were intended to be. Bold and unmistakably graphic, they embody the vibrancy of early 20th-century design. Confident use of colour and pattern brings a sense of rhythm and playfulness.
Each cup bears the black Bizarre by Clarice Cliff facsimile of the stamp applied to the original pieces circa 1930. Plus Wedgwood logo and Clarice Cliff Collection, Made in England c.2001 . The cups are numbered C14, C26, and Z38.
Approximate dimensions: Height: 6.4cm / 2.5” Diameter: 9cm / 3.5” Width inc. handle: 11cm / 4.25". One cup (C 14) has a minor hairline fracture, leading to some minor discolouration which can be seen in the pictures.
