Troika: Marmalade Jar, by Sylvia Vallence
This fabulous Troika pottery piece, known as a “marmalade jar”, was decorated by Sylvia Vallence who worked with the Troika between 1967 and 1969.
The vase is marked to the base with Sylvia’s initials (SV) and Troika St. Ives. It also has markings from an unknown early retailer, who advertised the price for 10 shillings (50p). The value of this piece has risen significantly since then!
Black shoulders, with an orange circle detail against a beige background on each panel. Approximate dimensions: height 9cm, width 7.5cm.
Sylvia Vallence worked during the final St Ives years, adding her own decorative style to Troika's established forms. Her use of colour and texture brought a lively energy to the pieces she worked on. Although her time at the pottery was relatively short, it was during a highly creative period. Her work is now sought after for its link to Troika's late St Ives heritage.
