Claire trained in ceramics at Farnham and went on to gain extensive experience working with some of the UK’s most respected studio potters. She worked with Douglas Phillips at Ridge Pottery in Queen Camel and with John Leach at Muchelney in Somerset, followed by two years as a production thrower at A. \u0026amp; J. Young Pottery in Norfolk. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eHer wood-fired stoneware is raw-fired to approximately 1280°C during firings that can last up to 30 hours. Oxygen-hungry flames leave warm orange flashes and speckled deposits of melted ash on the bare clay, set against glazed surfaces. Soda is introduced directly into the kiln over several hours, creating a lustrous surface that can develop into a distinctive “orange peel” texture.
